World just changed…

2b || !2b = ?” has just been answered. Looks like both Yahoo, and Google are lurking around CaptiveAdaptations. Ask me why ?. Well here are the announcements. Google launched “personalized search” and Yahoo started “My Web 2.0“. Check the screenshot.

In effect as of yesterday, we no longer have to be with Classical Web. Yes, Classical web is dead, Long live Classical web. In my aforeblogged article I was just wondering how long I should stick with the Classical Web. Lo and behold, my prayers just got answered 2b || !2b = Web2.0B !!

To dive into the details and comparisions — this is based on the first sightings, a detailed blogentry will follow — in my opinion YAHOO WINS the initial battle for the following reasons

  • It has got good Tag capabilities
  • The Tag Cloud display is also neat
  • It provides 3 levels of sharing: private, community and public

So start Tagging, and Share Tagging, Go Tagocrazy.. Hail Tagocracy !!

Feeds Tsunami

The overarching reach and control of RSS channels, will soon cascade into a “Feeds Tsunami” loaded with overwhelming information you just asked for ;) . Its sort of the “Watch what you wish for” thing or the “Do not bite off, more than you can chew” kindaf. No seriously, I simply enjoy the luxury to be able to tune into a particular “tag” frequency and be a mute spectator to the various ideas floating around. But the number of RSS feeds to get to a particular information piece is just increasing at break neck speed.

Imagine say getting feeds for a particular blog, I am just trying to enumerate the number of channels/ways in which this can be achieved.
1. Through the RSS feed on the blog itself.
2. Through the feed on the Feedburner or other aggregators.
3. Through the feeds on sites like del.icio.us, jots etc based on tags.
4. Through the feeds on technorati, and many other blog search engines.

I have already listed say 8-10 feeds for a single piece of content, isn’t that amazing. No wonder in a few days we will have the Feeds Tsunami !!, similar to the Cable TV channels explosion.

Sometimes it just feels good to go into Gataga and “search” for any updates on a particular meme that you are in pursuit of, rather than unknowingly subscribe to same feeds via various channels, hey by the way did you know that Gataga also has an RSS Feed of the top 30 results at the very bottom of their page !!. We just can’t escape syndication, can we ??.

Monkeys, Memes and Mantras

The revival of the web with read/write capability has once again triggered the adventurous minds towards irrational exuberance. In effect the monkey business of everybody trying to mimic a particular idea, or outperform a particular practice has a domino effect, and hence an overload of new memes. But its just not the read/write capability that has spun off the innumerous memes around.

The classical pull web, now has a “pseudo-push” via feeds. The push is pseudo because originally its still pull due to the initial process of subscription to a feed. The announcements recently by Microsoft, to its support for syndication both at the OS level as well as the browser level, is a shot in the arm for the cloud community. “Clouds” will likely be the new mantra for a few more months, and watching clouds like cloudalicio will be the new memetic passtime.

Lets make Tagocracy a new meme, shall we ?. Just start tagging Tagocracy in your blogs, and make it happen, my fellow monkeys !! :-P

2b || !2b = ?

This is Geekonomy. As folksonomies, and Tagocracy have seen rapid adoption and steep gradient of growth, the classical use of language and the classical “web” as we know themselves start to become too shallow or diminish in appeal.

People will associ8 and rel8 themselves more with virtual communities which understand their lingo and add to that enough amount of Hi5 non-challence, we are in for a dramitic rise in con-notations.

The question then is, how much relevant will “classical web” hold for our day-2-day activities. Is not annotated and connotated web more relevant for me as an individual to categorize, classify, store and share information. Does not tagging provide me a better way to relate to things I know and the way I perceive them.

Then how long should I be wandering in the “classical web”. Should I be with the classical web or should I be with the new annotated web ?. In essence, “2b || !2b = ?”

Tagocracy

All right I am coining a new word, based on what I have been observing lately. Tagocracy - is for tags of the people, by the people and for the people.

Annotating or tagging is turning out to be so viral and essential, that within social communities / virtual contexts the new absracts formulated for words/sentences are taking on a significant vocabulary of their own.

Folksonomies has already been in vogue for around 10 months or so now. So welcome to Tagocracy, the new movement.

Annotating Annotated Adaptations

The title sounds a little too geeky. But that is exactly what this blog entry is. No points for guessing where the link has taken you to !

Annotated Adaptations

Annotated Web was a concept that I learnt in early 2001. It seemed interesting then, but we had no serious tools to achieve it. Everything had to only be bookmarked via the browser with some name, you chose for the bookmark. But then had scamper through your memory to retrieve the thread of thought back.

For the past year or so however, I have seen an amazing adoption of this concept, and have seen successful businesses built out of it. Advanced search capabilities with good search engines became key catalysts to the annotated web. Tagging as it is now known in common parlance along with search has become the new panacea for all our information woes. However here are some really interesting ideas/applications/tools I would like to enumerate that helps us navigate through the maze of information.

1. Annotating your bookmarks: and sharing it with people on the web: del.icio.us
2. Annotating your photos: Flickr made it so simple and easy to annotate and share our snaps.
3. Annotating your bookmarks with photos rather than words: wists
4. Annotating your RSS feeds: feedtagger
5. Annotating your podcasts: odeo

I have been using all of them now, and beginning to realize the speed at which we are adopting these, the world surely rocks !

The best and simplest of all applications though is piggybank that works like a charm on my desktop in firefox. World sure is becoming a fun place to be, and if semantics could be easily coupled to all this, are we in for a treat or what ?

Midnight Oil

After a brief lull in our activities concerning this website, we have been burning the midnight oil this night to customize this Blog. While we jumpstart this site, the blog and other goodies on this site, we also happened to notice some wonderful essays in the past week.

One of them is from Mark Fletcher, who happens to be as humorous in his writings as the name of his website. He recently put up a very good blog entry on why Stealth mode startups suck.

I have been involved in one such stealth mode startup for the past 7 months, and I must confide that Mark has definitely hit the mark with this entry.

Unthinkable Courage

This news article left me with a overwhelming emotion of joy and pride simultaneously. Amongst ordinary people like us, its these rare gems who demonstrate such awareness, intelligence, effort and above all faith to fight for their beliefs.

I am ashamed that this industry has “crowned” such evil empires as leaders and bestowed them with power which has only made them such irrational bullies. Big corporations with such atrocious attorneys and legal advisors haved failed both the consumers and people within the industry with such shameless deeds. A $40 billion dollar company, who cannot keep their legal dogs at bay, what a shame !

Unthinkable acts of courage from people like Zamos empower us with a willingness to dare, knowing pretty well that all odds might be agains us. True fighter !, I am really thrilled with this guys feat.
